PEIRSON MEYER Pinot Noir, Bateman Vineyard, Sonoma Coast

2014 PEIRSON MEYER Pinot Noir, Bateman Vineyard, Sonoma Coast

Review by Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Another relatively small cuvée is the 2014 Pinot Noir Bateman Vineyard, which is medium ruby showing notes of damp earth, cinnamon, clove, sassafras, pomegranate and red cherry in an expressive Premier Cru Côte de Beaune-like style. This is a nice, fleshy, soft, round Pinot Noir to drink over the next 5-6 years. -90 pts.

2013 PEIRSON MEYER Pinot Noir, Bateman Vineyard, Sonoma Coast

The 2013 Pinot Noir Bateman Vineyard from the Sonoma Coast comes from a parcel next to Dave Del Dotto’s well-known Cinghiale Vineyard in this area. This wine has a rather rustic, earthy, meaty style for Pinot Noir, with big, beefy underbrush and soil notes. A style not unlike a premier cru from Pommard with its rusticity and primordial meatiness, this is an interesting wine, and probably more controversial than the other two, but delicious and capable of lasting at least a decade. Drink 2015 - 2025. - 92 pts.

2012 PEIRSON MEYER Pinot Noir, Bateman Vineyard, Sonoma Coast

Lavender, rose petal, mint, graphite, spices and dark black cherries from an attractive backdrop in the 2012 Pinot Noir Bateman Vineyard. Underlying veins of acidity and Sonoma Coast minerality give the 2012 its cut and focus. The Bateman is floral, lifted and precise throughout. --92 pts.

-The Wine Advocate - Robert Parker

The 2012 Pinot Noir Bateman Vineyard is made from Dijon clone 777. The most meaty and structured of these Pinots, it comes across as very Burgundian with a Côte de Nuits-like character. Its broodingly dark color is followed by notes of forest floor, sassafras, earth, black cherries and Chinese black tea. Well-made and medium to full-bodied, it will benefit from another 6-12 months of bottle age, and should last for 6-8 years. --92 pts.

2010 PEIRSON MEYER Pinot Noir, Bateman Vineyard, Sonoma Coast

Black cherries, hard candy, flowers and sweet spices seem to burst from the glass. The exuberance and power of the Dijon clones come through loud and clear. There is plenty of depth in the glass, but a little less in the way of finesse. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. - 88 pts.
