2014 PEIRSON MEYER Maquette, Napa Valley

Review by Antonio Galloni, Vinous

The 2014 Maquette is a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from Kenefick Ranch in Calistoga. The flavors are bold and intense, with plenty of dark stone fruit, gravel, smoke and plum overtones. Merlot gives the wine its juiciness, but there is plenty of tannic grip as well as the brooding power that is typical of this site. -92 pts.

2013 PEIRSON MEYER Maquette, Napa Valley

An innovative blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2013 Maquette comes from the Kenefick Ranch up near Calistoga. This is a beauty. Dense purple, with a blockbuster nose of blackberries, blueberries, licorice and incense, the wine has a skyscraper-like mouthfeel, opulence and flesh, followed by stunning purity, richness and overall equilibrium. This should drink well for at least 10-15+ years. Sadly, the production is a small 150 cases. - 94 pts.

2012 PEIRSON MEYER Maquette, Napa Valley

The 2012 Proprietary Red Maquette is an equal part blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Kenefick Ranch in Napa (adjacent to the Araujo winery). It exhibits abundant sexy, broad, savory notes of blackcurrant fruit, forest floor, baking spices and new oak. Lush, heady, open-knit and precocious, it can be drunk with pleasure over the next 8-10 years. It was aged 20 months in 75% new French oak.-90 pts.
