PEIRSON MEYER Chardonnay, Charles Heintz Vineyard

2014 PERISON MEYER Chardonnay, Charles Heintz Vineyard, Sonoma Coast

Review by Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

From a well-known site favored by the Chardonnay cognoscenti of Northern California, the 2014 Chardonnay Charles Heintz is a relatively small cuvée of 200 cases aged in the same manner as the other Chardonnays and fermented with indigenous yeasts. More tangerine, nectarine, lemon oil and citrus are found in this crisp, zesty Chardonnay that also moves toward tropical fruits on the palate. Sexy, full-bodied and a stunner, drink it over the next 5-7 years. -95 pts.

Absolutely magnificent is the 2013 Chardonnay Charles Heinz Vineyard from the Sonoma Coast. This is made from 40-year-old Old Wente clones of Chardonnay, and is fabulous in the hands of Peirson Meyer. Loads of honeysuckle, white corn, orange blossom and citrus are all present in this beautifully pure, multidimensional, full-throttle, prodigious Chardonnay that offers elegance and viscosity. Tremendous energy and delineation characterize a big, deep Chardonnay that’s a tour de force - 94 pts.

My favorite Chardonnay is the 2012 Chardonnay Charles Heintz Vineyard. This exotic effort displays lots of flinty minerality along with notes of orange marmalade, mango and citrus blossoms. Savory and full-bodied with terrific delineation and texture, it was aged 14 months on its lees and went through 100% full malolactic. Drink now-2022. -95 pts.

2011 PEIRSON MEYER Chardonnay, Charles Heintz Vineyard, Sonoma Coast

Lemon, honey, almonds, orange peel and spices are some of the many notes that flesh out in the 2011 Chardonnay Peirson Meyer Charles Heintz Vineyard. This site almost always sees some botrytis and that quality is definitely present here, but ultimately, the 2011 is first and foremost a wine of pure harmony. Drinking window: 2014-2018 - 93 pts.

2008 PEIRSON MEYER Chardonnay, Charles Heintz Vineyard, Sonoma Coast

More citrus oil, white peach, apricot and tangerine notes are found in the 2008 Chardonnay Charles Heintz Vineyard, which was vinified identically to its siblings. Coming from 40-year old, dry-farmed vines, it is a viscous, rich, steely, slightly less expressive effort. While denser and less nuanced aromatically at present, those characteristics may emerge with additional bottle age. -92 pts.
